MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

Cathaoirleachs Business

That in future when trees and landscaping are being planted as part of a development carried out under the auspices of the Architects/Housing department that a definite plan around responsibility/grass cutting/pruning etc is put in place in order to avoid the neglect of expensive planting as has happened in the past.

REPORT:

The following is the procedure has been agreed in relation to landscaping works on new housing schemes constructed by the Council.

This involves initial consultation between Architects and Parks Departments on the landscaping details for the development. At the stage when a certificate of practical completion of the works is issued by the project architect, both Depts will snag the works carried out to ensure any remedial issues are resolved. At the end of the subsequent one-year defects liability period, both Depts will again review the works and specify any remedial issues to be resolved by either the contractor or in default by the Council from retention monies retained on the contract. The landscaping works will then be handed over to Parks Dept and will be added in to their maintenance schedule for the area.

Architects and Housing Dept will ensure maintenance works are carried out between practical completion stage and final sign off at the end of the defects liability period.
