SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor S. Crowe
To ask the Manager what is the current situation in relation to available funding for kitchen maintenance and upgrade of Council houses in this Committee area?
REPLY:
The budget allocation for kitchen upgrade and maintenance each year is limited and Housing Maintenance addresses as many cases as possible within the available finance.
To date in 2010 the Council has carried out 16 full kitchen replacements, 6 of which were in the Tallaght area, and 12 part-upgrade works of which 4 were in the Tallaght area. There is no further finance available in this year's budget for kitchen replacement or upgrade works.
Housing Maintenance is keeping a record of all requests by tenants for kitchen works and inspections are being carried out and the existing facilities are graded with regard to the need for attention. When finance becomes available the requests will be prioritised and works carried out within the budget. There are 58 such requests requiring attention on file since 1/1/2009. It should also be noted for approval under this programme the tenants rent account must be either clear or on an official arrangement.
