MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this Committee agrees that SDCC 'coordinate' the setting up of a Tidy Districts group for Rathfarnham Village, with a view to beautifying/upgrading the village and eventually entering it in the Tidy Districts competition."

REPORT:

The Council works closely with many groups throughout the county and is open to providing support and assistance to any new groups that wish to getting involved in their community. Groups of this nature must however be community based and initiated if they are to have any realistic chance of success. In this regard, motivated residents/local Councillors are best placed to bring together such a group of concerned citizens.

The whole ethos of Tidy Towns/Districts competitions is that groups entering such competitions are independently set up and work locally to maintain their area to achieve the local pride and ownership that allows areas to develop and prosper in the Tidy Towns/Districts framework.

However, as with all such groups, the Council's Parks, Environmental Services and other Departments will liaise with any group that is established in Rathfarnham.
