QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor C. King

To ask the Manager what is the policy in relation to the sharing of bus stops between public and private operators and is it reasonable to be requiring operators to apply for planning permission to attach their small signs to existing stops/shelters?

REPLY:

Planning permission is not required for bus stops. The location of bus stops is a matter for the Garda Authorities and the Bus provider. Bus shelters are provided generally on foot of arrangements between public transport providers and third party companies and these require planning permission. It may well be that permission is required from these companies for permission to erect a bus sign on the shelter. It would be preferrable for all bus operators to use the same bus stop.
