QUESTION NO. 1
QUESTION: Councillor S. Crowe
To ask the Manager will he in view of the ongoing daily difficulties experienced by commuters traveling in and out of the City and the importance of Newlands Cross route to good traffic management in South Dublin County area, can he outline if discussions have taken place with the NRA in relation to this section of roadway, if the tender has been circulated and can he say when works will begin to alleviate traffic congestion at this junction?
REPLY:
The importance of Newlands Cross to the management of traffic in our County is fully appreciated by all parties and specific arrangements have been planned to allow for the necessary construction works to take place while minimising the disruption to traffic flows. The contract provides that two lanes in both directions will be kept open.
The construction scheme is part of a PPP bundle contract being organised by the NRA which includes the Rathnew Bypass in County Wicklow. The tendering process is well advanced and it is expected that a contract will be signed in Nov 2010 with a view to construction commencing in 2011. Construction is expected to take 21 months to complete the junction
