QUESTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"To ask the Manager to confirm that the Green in Orwell will not be used as a Christmas tree recycle this year and to outline what alternate location will be used?"

REPLY:

The recycling of Christmas trees is a positive contribution to the reduction of material going to landfill and allows for the shredded material to be converted and used for compost. The Parks and Landscape Services Department has operated a popular and successful Christmas tree recycling programme over the past 10 years.

With the roll out of the brown bin service earlier this summer, there is no longer a requirement to operate a specific Christmas tree recycling programme as residents can now dispose of their christmas trees directly using the brown bin service.

There will therefore be no collection point on the open space in Orlagh this year.
