QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"To ask the Manager to inform the Committee of the current status of applications for bin charge waivers, how long it is taking to process an application and is there an increase in applications over 2009 figures?"

REPLY:

The number of Waiver Applications received from 1^st January 2009 to 1^st September 2009 was 1,621 in comparison to 1,729 received in the same period of time for 2010. This shows an increase of 108 applications. Up to 1^st September 2010, the amount of outstanding applications is 1,526. There is currently a backlog of applications to be processed which are dating back to March this year. Staff have been assigned to work on this backlog.
