Late Night League’s
Tallaght & Clondalkin
The Late night league programme targets youth at risk of anti social behaviour from the Tallaght and Clondalkin area. The programme is a partnership between South Dublin County Council, Gardai and the Football in the Community Development Officers employed by SDCC and the FAI.
Youth from each of the areas where invited to participate in this programme which took place on a Friday and Saturday evening over a 4 – 5 week period.
The Football in the Community Development Officers coordinated the programme, ensuring fixtures, and rules where clear to all participants. Most importantly the element of “Fair Play” and good sportsmanship was explained to all those involved and for the most part was adhered to.
Both programmes had a successful turn out each night with approximately 50 – 60 youth and spectators attending Clondalkin Leisure Centre on a Friday evening and approximately 52 Youths aged 14 – 17 in attendance in Tallaght Leisure Centre.
The Gardai in both areas targeted and recruited the participants; they also provided supervision and support in both venues each night. Without the support of the Gardai in the respective divisions the programme would not have been as successful as it was.
Over all it was a very positive and worthwhile event which was enjoyed by all whom participated. It is hope to roll out a city wide programme during November.
The following are extracts from reports submitted by both Tallaght Garda Station and Clondalkin Village Garda Station.
Clondalkin Statistics
*Incidents on Pulse – these are incidents recorded on our computer system, Pulse, that record public order incidents for which there will be a prosecution / juvenile caution or adult caution.
** Incidents on Command and Control – these are incidents that are recorded as complaints are received from the public about public order problems. The Command and Control centre then dispatches a mobile / bicycle or foot patrol to deal with those incidents. All such incidents would not end in a prosecution.
