QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane

"To ask the Manager to have this membersnet query addressed. Ticket No. 21481  members net due for response weeks ago re removal of weeds on Rathfarnham Road/Dodder Road etc. etc.. Overdue - waste of agenda space having to table again to try and get this work carried out, and to state SDCC policy on removal of weeds from roadsides?"

REPLY:

The weed control programme which forms part of the Environmental Services road sweeping contract is in place only in housing estates around the County.  Under the contract housing estate roads and footpaths are sprayed for weeds on two occasions in the year.  The spraying takes place at two specific locations, namely at the kerb edge of the footpath and also at the road edge where the road meets the kerb.  Weed control on main roads does not take place at present.  The road sweeping contractor has been asked to examine the weeds in the areas mentioned (Rathfarnham Village, Dodder Road, Rathfarnham Road, Butterfield Avenue) and submit a cost estimate for the work necessary to remove these weeds.  Once that estimate has been received it will be determined if this work can take place within the revised budget.
