QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane

"To ask the Manager to have the many weeds removed from Dodder Road (roadside of small butt wall) i.e. from Rathfarnham shopping centre to traffic lights at Rathfarnham Road - requested previously?"

REPLY:

The weed control programme which forms part of the Environmental Services road sweeping contract is in place only in housing estates around the County.  Under the contract housing estate roads and footpaths are sprayed for weeds on two occasions in the year.  The spraying takes place at two specific locations, namely at the kerb edge of the footpath and also at the road edge where the road meets the kerb.  Weed control on main roads does not take place at present.  The road sweeping contractor has been asked to examine the weeds on the Dodder Road and submit a cost estimate for the work necessary to remove these weeds.  Once that estimate has been received it will be determined if this work can take place within the revised budget.
