QUESTION NO.3
QUESTION: Councillor J. Hannon
To ask the Manager to state the number and location of any litter bins that have actually been erected in 2010, to date, and without reference to any 'wish list'.
REPLY:
There are currently 750 litter bins in the county. No additional litter bins have been installed in the County to date in 2010. Under the national industrial action throughout the public sector which was in place for most of the first six months of the year the installation and servicing of new litter bins was rejected by staff unions on the grounds that it constituted additional work for their members. Since the signing of the Croke Park Agreement which brought the national work to rule to an end the staff unions have notified Council management that it is their intention to continue to refain from engaging in additonal work including the installation and servicing of new / additional litter bins. Management are in discussions attempting to bring this industrial action to an end. The county has been surveyed and a full list has been prepared of the priority areas where any new bins should be installed when a solution to the current issues are found.
