QUESTION NO. 16
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to detail the number of previous SDCC bin collection customers who have transferred to private bin collection operators (based on notifications received by the council) in each electoral area in each of 2009, 2010 to date and also specifically in July & August 2010 and in the case of each figure to also state as a percentage of the overall SDCC customer base at that time?
REPLY:
The following table shows the number of customers that have notified the Council that they have moved to an alternative refuse collection service provider:
2009 | 2010 | July '10 | Aug '10 | |
Clondalkin | 19 | 31 | 1 | 11 |
Lucan | 95 | 185 | 14 | 44 |
Rathfarnham | 62 | 74 | 9 | 15 |
Tallaght Central | 35 | 44 | 5 | 11 |
Tallaght South | 44 | 57 | 7 | 12 |
Totals | 255 | 391 | 36 | 93 |
The figure for August 2010 represents approximately 0.1% of the current customer base. However it is possible that customers are moving to another provider and not notifying the Council. Towards this end the Council proposes to meet with the other providers to put in place arrangements for us to be notified. Obviously if customers change providers then the Council will have to ensure that the bins are returned and that that the green bin service which is provided to customers at no charge as part of the integrated waste management system ceases and that the contractor is notified accordingly. It is proposed to commence meetings with private providers to ensure that the Council is notified when customers transfer to facilitate the withdrawl of the Council funded green bin service.
