QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor C. King
To ask the Manager how many customers have moved to a private operator for their bin service since the introduction of the increace in the bin charges and the lack of a complete service in the Month of August and what percentage is this of the overall customer base?
REPLY:
93 customers formally notified the Council that they were switching to an alternative refuse collection service provider in August 2010. This represents approximately 0.1% of the current customer base. However it is possible that customers are moving to another provider and not notifying the Council. Towards this end the Council proposes to meet with the other providers to put in place arrangements for us to be notified. Obviously if customers change providers then the Council will have to ensure that the bins are returned and that that the green bin service which is provided to customers at no charge as part of the integrated waste management system ceases and that the contractor is notified accordingly.
