QUESTION NO. 30
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager in respect of frequent complaints from local residents, to confirm the clean-ups undertaken at Greentrees Park (both the '8 Acres' and '5 Acres') since the beginning of 2010, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
Greentrees Park is maintained on a regular basis and to a reasonably high standard throughout the year. The main activity at this time of year is grass cutting and the public open spaces in this area are included in the Parks Department's regular grass cutting schedule.
During the season, grass is usually cut at a frequency of 13 to 15 days between cuts, depending on a range of factors which can impact on the grass-cutting programme. These factors include weather and ground conditions, machinery breakdown, repair and servicing, health & safety issues, training and insurance, annual leave and leave due to illness, and the short term redeployment of staff to other specific works.
It is acknowledged that the frequency of cutting in this area has fallen behind the normal frequency and local staff are working to rectify this situation as soon as possible. It is also planned to have a general cleanup of the park carried out within the next month.
