MOTION NO. 15

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager outline the success to date of the co-operation between the Environmental Services department and the Utility Companies in removing graffiti locally and the reply to include: 

instances of cooperation in the Rathfarnham Ward where graffiti was removed

correspondence from the utility companies which set out their commitment to such cooperation."

REPORT:

Significant improvements have been made in the reporting and working relationships between the Council and the Utility Companies over the last couple of years and a draft protocol defining this relationship was significantly progressed.  However, due to personnel changes within that company a formal sign-off has not been achieved and this will  be pursued.  Once the protocol is signed off, it will be progressed to other companies.  However, it is important to note that as a result of meetings with utility companies, reporting arrangements were put in place whereby referrals relating to graffiti and/or litter from the Council's Litter Wardens are promptly acted upon and on four instances throughout the County this arrangement has been required to date this year.

However, no complaints about graffiti on any utility companies' facilities in the Rathfarnham area have been received by the Council to date in 2010 so if the Members are aware of any area requiring attention it should be referred to the Environmental Services Department and the necessary referral will be made to the appropriate company.
