New Works - Landscaping and Playground Works at Fortunestown
REPORT
Mac Uilliam Estate (Fortunestown B) was originally designed as a masterplan of 5 phases. Work commenced initially on Phase 2 and 4 followed by Phase 1. Phases 3 and 5 were tendered as Affordable Housing but due to the economic downturn have not received approval from the Department of Environment and will not proceed at least in the medium term. Phases 3 and 5 were designed to include amenity open space and playground facilities.
The overall Mac Uilliam scheme remains uncompleted as a result with a shortage of amenity open space and play facilities. As part of the Mayor’s Initiative, consultations took place on 3rd March 2010 between the Mayor and the Director of Housing & Social Development with local residents groups. Following yhis, a preliminary design and cost plan was submitted to the Department of Environment for both Mac Uilliam and Balgaddy completion works. Funding for both projects has now been approved by the DoE.
The scheme for Mac Uilliam, as indicated on the attached outline plan, includes –
Subject to further local consultation on the specific proposals,, this scheme will be advanced to Part 8 process. Capital monies allocated must be expended in full before year end.
