HEADED ITEM NO. 2

DRINKING WATER -  RESTRICTED AREAS

A report was requested on the mechanisms used for the restriction of supplies of water across the county with a view to establishing how such a necessity could be managed in the future.

While South Dublin County Council attempted at all times during the water restriction period in January and February 2010 to ration the water fairly on a rolling rotation bases, some areas because of their location in the water distribution network did not lose their water supply at all. These areas were on small pumped systems or on Hospital lines for example. One such area was in the Knocklyon/Ballyboden area both sides of the Scholarstown Road between the M50 and Stocking Lane including parts of Orlagh Park, Woodfield, Scholarstown Park and Boden Park estates. The area within the pink border on the attached map. The reason for this was that the valve to turn this District Meter Area (DMA) off is located in a locked Pumping Station  owned by Dun Laoghaire County Council and only accessible to South Dublin County Council during working hours except in emergencies.
