HEADED ITEM NO. 21
To amend Section 1.3.41 of the draft plan to omit the third paragraph and add a sentence to the second paragraph. The section should read as follows (additional text in bold):
1.3.41 Allotments
There are 245 allotments allocated throughout the County in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, Mill Lane, Palmerstown, Friarstown, Bohernerabreena and Tymon Park, Tallaght.
Allotments have been constructed in a number of public parks and they have been an outstanding success to date. It is an objective of the Council to provide allotments in parks taking into consideration the demand for the facilities and the presence of a high level of supervision within the park. Allotments offer the opportunity to provide education in horticulture as well as on the sustainable value of home food production.”
Existing allotments in the County are located on land which may eventually be developed for housing or other infrastructure. When this land is required for development purposes, the possibility of identifying alternative land to facilitate the present allotment holders will be examined. In the longer term it may be appopriate to consider allotments as a permanent feature in areas of the County.
