QUESTION: Councillor B. Lawlor
To ask the Manager to outline how much money was made available in 2009 for the Housing grant Scheme; how many applications were processed and a grant provided; how many applications were processed and a grant was not provided; how many applications remain outstanding and how much money is required to ensure all outstanding applications receive a grant?
REPLY:
The Council was approved for grant expenditure up to €4,670,000.00 in respect of works to private houses in 2009.
The number of applications for which grants were paid in 2009 was as follows:- 53 Disabled Persons Grants , 226 Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability, 24 Mobility Aids Grants and 105 Housing Aid for Older People Grants.
Commitments given in respect of approved applications where works had not been completed at the end of 2009 was as follows:- 29 applications under the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability Scheme; 8 applications under the Mobility Aids Grant Scheme and 29 applications under the Housing Aid for Older People scheme.
The number of applications awaiting approval at the end of 2009 was as follows: 7 Disabled Persons Grants; 119 Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability; 3 Mobility Aids Grants and 14 Housing Aid for Old People Grants,
On 5th March, 2010, the Council received notification from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government of a grant allocation in the amount of €4,766.000.00 for 2010. It is anticipated that the funding approved for 2010 will be sufficient to process the applications still on hand from 2009 which qualify for grant funding together with those applications received to date in 2010.The availability of grant funding for future applications in 2010 will be dependent on the volume of same and the balance of funding remaining when all outstanding applications have been processed.
