MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"To ask the Manager to provide additional trees in Glenmore Park along the side of house no. 7 at the back of Whitechurch Cottages?"

REPLY:

The Spring 2010 Tree Planting Programme for the Rathfarnham Area Committee was the subject of a report under Headed Item H-l-l6 to the February Meeting of this committee. http://intranet/cmas/documnetsview.aspx?id=25759

From the outset of the current programme of tree works when it commenced last November, the Parks Department has clearly expressed that priority is being given to the maintenance and pruning of existing trees and shrubberies.  This is in response to the large volume of requests received for tree pruning and removals, primarily due to the extent of the established and maturing tree population across the South Dublin County Council administrative area.  In this context, a limited amount of tree planting is being undertaken this spring which is a reflection of the focus on maintenance of existing trees and not budgetary constraints.

The provision of additional tree planting adjacent to house no. 7 Glenmore Park and to the rear of  Whitechurch Cottages will be considered in the context of the 20l0-20ll Arboricultural Programme.
