MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor J. Hannon
That Piperstown Road be added to the list of rural roads on the gritting schedule.
REPORT:
At the end of each winter maintenance season, a review of the outcomes from the recently completed maintenance season is carried out. This review includes a detailed examination of all gritting routes having regard to changing public transport routes, newly constructed routes and other amending factors. Generally priority is afforded to routes having regard to their designated classification so National Primary routes take precedence over National Secondary Routes and so on, with Regional Roads taking priority over Local Roads. Most public transport routes would also be afforded a priority in the schedule.
Within the available resources there is a finite limit to the number and length of routes that can be treated, however all routes are re-examined at review time. Members should note however that if this request is to be accommodated within the available resources, then an existing route (or routes) on the current schedule and in the immediate area and of the same approximate length would have to be omitted. If the motion is passed the matter will be further examined in conjunction with the overall planned review process.
