MOTION: Councillor E. Walsh 2009

That this Council notes with disappointment a recent survey by Irish Business against Litter (IBAL) report ranking Tallaght 55th place out of 60 contenders for the anti-litter league and undertakes to adopt a full review of its anti-litter programme to reverse this placing.  

REPORT:

While the league position is regretable, analysis of the results has been undertaken to address the issues pertaining to the specific sites contributing to the overall ranking attributed to Tallaght in this survey.  It should be noted that the weighting applied within these surveys, together with the selection criteria and survey items at sites means that a poor rating in a small number of the overall sites surveyed can significantly reduce an overall standing.

Efforts continue to be made by the Council to tackle all of the individual IBAL sites in both public and private ownership and the wider issue of litter in conjunction with the community, schools, businesses and individuals under the specific guidleines provided by An Taisce together with the Council's Litter Management Plan.
