QUESTION NO. 4

QUESTION: Councillor C. King

"To ask the Manager how many window replacements are expected to take place this year in Council homes in the Tallaght area taking into account the current allowance in the agreed Budget 2010 understanding the Manager's intention to seek additional funding through the Department to compliment our current budget and proposed works?"

REPLY:

There are currently 525  housing units countywide on the window replacement list, 283 of these relate to  the Tallaght Area.  155 of these have  been graded - approximately 60% will require either part or full replacements.  The regrading of the balance is continuing and should be completed within the next 4 weeks.  The number graded countywide at present is 375 and this shows that 77% require some form of replacement.  Work has commenced on 33 units, 10 relate to the Tallaght Area, which reduces the outstanding number to 273. It is difficult to state at this time how many will be completed in the Tallaght Area as work will be carried out on the houses longest on the list and where their windows and doors are in the worst condition and their rent account is either clear or an arrangement in place to clear the arrears.  It is also proposed to insulate the house where this is required.  The cost will vary from €2,000 to €3,000 for part replacements to approximately € 8,400 for full replacement including insulation.

Contact has been made with the Department in relation to seeking additional funding and a proposal is being prepared for submission in support of such a claim.  It is too early to say if the proposal will be sucessful
