MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, March 15, 2010

QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"To ask the Manager to make a report to this Committee as to why the grey bins at the new St Aongus Estate infill houses are collected on Friday when the rest of St Aongus and Tymon North estates are collected on Thursday? Could the Manager also inform this Committee if there are any reports from bin crews regarding obstructions in cul de sacs, such as Tymon North Grove, that continually prevent the collection of grey bins at certain houses in that location and if such reports exist, what action does the Manager propose to take to overcome these difficulties?"

REPLY:

The 34 additional bins in St Aongus Estate are collected on a Thursday but it is hoped to include them on the regular Friday Collection in the area as part of  negotiations with staff unions on the reorganisation of the refuse service as a whole.

There have been some reports of difficulties in gaining access to part of Tymon North recently.  When access problems are reported Refuse Supervisory staff will visit the location and will contact car owners to request that on collection days cars are not parked blocking refuse truck access.
