MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, March 15, 2010

MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor C. King

That this Committee, while commending the additional work carried out by staff in relation to the water supply, calls on the Manager to report with respect to the Tallaght area (A) how many households are currently still without water for whatever reason be it airblocks, leaks etc, (B) how many households are currently awaiting inspection relating to same (C) what is the current expected wait for residents to have their systems inspected and fixed and (D) how many frontline staff i.e plumbers are currently assigned to this work in the Tallaght area.

REPORT:

South Dublin County Council’s Water Maintenance Section is unaware of any house in our Administrative area being without water following the lifting of the water restrictions at the end of February 2010.

The Water Maintenance Section currently employs three plumbers who cover the whole county. It should be noted that the County Council is responsible for the maintenance of the public water supply and does not become involved in individual private household supply problems. Householders should contact plumbing contractors where they are experiencing difficulties with their private supply such as airlocks, leaks etc.
