COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That the Manager update Councillors on when the water supply is expected to be back and what steps the Council is taking to streamline the system to be able to alert Residents if water is to be cut off as the unexpected nature of the cuts-off is very frustrating and annoying for Residents (referring specifically to Orlagh Park and Templeroan areas)."
REPORT:
All water restrictions in South Dublin County Council Administrative area were lifted since Friday 26th February, 2010. However, the Council, urges the public to conserve water.
During the period of the water restrictions in January and February 2010 South Dublin County Council imposed water restrictions in a routine and scheduled fashion with a 3 day rotating schedule of restrcitions across the county. This rotating scheduled was designed to be easily understood by householders and information was placed on the Council's website to ensure availability of the information.
The Council attempted at all times to keep the public and their public representatives informed of all restrictions across the county, the areas affected, the times and durations on the Council webpage. The Council also placed notifications relating to localised restrictions arising from individual bursts on the website. At the height of the restrictions the webpage was being updated at least six times daily.
Local Press were notified of all restrictions while e-mail notifications were also issued where possible. Given the nature of the problem and the need for regular updates, these were the most effective means of delivering the message to householders.
