1)    Minutes of previous meeting held on 29th of April 2009

2)   Matters arising.

       None

 

3)   Football in the Community Development Officer Presentation.

Presented by J. Crawford, G. Glynn and G. Reardon. 

The members commended the development officers on their work to date and enquired about the current vacancy in the Lucan area.  Members were advised that applications for this position are currently being short listed – interviews are to be held over the coming weeks.

Cllr Looney sought information in relation to cutbacks and how this may affect the delivery of the programme. Members were advised that provision has been made to allow this programme to run for the foreseeable future.

A number of questions arose in relation to Soccer sisters, Show Racism the Red Card, Pitch Fees, Summer Time Leagues for Girls and Sports for all, to which B. Coman responded; advising that todate all of the above programmes have been completed successfully and further programmes will be rolled out in each area as required.

 Cllr McDonagh sought information regarding training of referee’s. B. Coman advised that Spoirt Teic and Sports Flexibility trainees are to undergo this programme in the coming year.  Members of the public can also get information on the training programmes on offer via the FAI website.

 

4)  Sports Strategy Update

      Presented by Thos Mc Dermott , Coordinator of South Dublin Sports      Partnership

      Cllr King commended the work of the Sports Partnership to date, particularly the   “Link to be active” programme.

      Mrs C. McCartney and Cllr Mc Donagh sought information regarding minority sports and what supports are in place. Members where advised that groups  can apply for   funding through the community grants scheme, and of training  programmes through the sports partnership such as child protection, code of     ethics, volunteer training. Members were also made aware of the Volunteer   Bureau and the service they offer in relation to Garda Vetting of volunteers.

 Mr C Johnston advised members of the upcoming Dublin Juvenile  Championships taking place in Tallaght Athletic club in March

 

5)   St Patricks Day Celebration

Mr W Sheils advised members that due to circumstances outside of the control of staff of SDCC we will not be in a position to host a day of celebration on the 17th of March.  A huge amount of work has been done to date on the programme but in light of the current industrial action staff feel it would not be feasible to go ahead with plans knowing that we might be in a situation where the event may be subsequently cancelled.

Cllr King, Cosgrave, and Looney thanks staff for the efforts to date.

 

6)  AOB

Play Policy

A working group is currently being set up to revise the current Play Policy with a view to including elements of play outside of the play ground setting.  The working group will have representatives of Parks, Community, Housing, Public Realm and RAPID.  A representative from the SPC was sought – Cllr King volunteered to be the representative
