QUESTION: Councillor J. Hannon

"To ask the Manager to provide details of the works done to make safe the former Cleanbuild site at Bohernabreena Road, the  costs incurred by the Council in so doing, and can he also confirm what action has been taken to recover such costs?"

REPLY:

The site in question has been the subject of action by the Council under both the waste enfocement and dangerous buildings functions.

The Council's Waste Enforcement Section intervened directly to remove a large amount of material that was posing a significant risk of environmental pollution in December 2008. The costs incurred by the Council were in the region of €140,000. A certain amount of additional work has been carried by the owner to clear waste from the site however further investigation has established that significant further remediation is required at the site. 

The costs incurred and the further remediation are the subject of an enforcement case being pursued against the owners of the site and the former directors of the company in the High Court.

Arising from the Council's service of a Dangerous Buildings Notice, the owner has also carried out works to make the site safe.
