MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor M. Corr
That the Manager give a report with regard to the usage and meaningful access to the Brookfield Community and Youth facility by young people and senior citizens from the immediate local area.
REPORT:
In 2008, the newly-opened Brookfield Youth & Community Centre was visited by 3,906 people. In 2009, the number of visits was 12,287. The atttached spreadsheet shows in detail the breakdown of the different types of users of the centre. There have been some teething problems with the centre but these are being ironed out and the Council in tandem with the management of the centre is planning a range of meausres to reach out to the local community and to attract as many people as possible to visit the centre and avail of the excellent facilities there.
One of the proposals is for an "open day" to be held which will invite everyone in the local community to visit the centre and to see firsthand what facilities are there and to get whatever information they need. The Council is very anxious that the centre realises its full potential and becomes a genuine asset to the community it serves as well as being a focus for a wide range of community activities and a real community centre .
