SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

QUESTION NO. 1
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to report on the impact of recent cutbacks imposed by the Fianna Fáil/Green Party Government on all sporting programmes and schemes run by or with the involvement of South Dublin County Council, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
While the current financial situation has put constraints on sports projects of a capital nature, the development of a community- based sports programme, co-ordinated by our Sports Office will continue to be rolled out and will not be significantly affected by the current economic climate. Indeed, there is a considerable amount of work presently going into the development of a Late Night Soccer League in co-operation with the F.A.I., the Garda Siochana and the Leisure Centres. The aim of the project is to provide an alternative activity to teenagers, particularly those who may be at risk of involvement in anti-social behaviour,
The SDCSP – Sports Partnership budget will be confirmed by the Irish Sports Council later this week. It is expected that there will be a small reduction to their overall level of funding available. However, the delivery of sports programmes should not be significantly affected.
