MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
This Committee, concerned at the noise pollution thought to be coming from smokers and others at the Plaza Hotel and the effect this is clearly having on local residents in Westpark Estate particularly at weekends, calls on the Manager to investigate the noise levels with a view to taking action possibly with other agencies to alleviate this issue.
REPORT:
The Principal Environmental Health Officer has reported that his department have met with the management of the Plaza Nightclub regarding this complaint. The crowd control policies and procedures regarding the smoking area have been reviewed. It has been agreed to further control the number of patrons that will be allowed leave the venue to smoke in the outdoor area. The use of mobile phones by patrons whilst out in the smoking area is also a contributory factor to the noise. The Environmental Health Office is confident that the management of this establishment takes it’s noise control responsibilities seriously. Security staff has been further advised to ensure that all patrons are advised to control their noise whilst exiting the premises and whilst in the outdoor area. This premises will be monitored in a programmed late night weekend visit in the near future to assess compliance with these new measures.
