MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor E. Coburn
"That the Manager update this Committee on the M50 Sound reduction barriers and calls for the introduction of these barriers to be installed without the loss of existing trees where possible and in particular at Orlagh Park. That this Committee calls for the Council to request NRA to plant tall deciduous trees to counter the effect of the new Motorway Gantries at the Scholarstown interchange and its effect on the Residents of Orlagh Grove."
REPORT:
The Council has been assured by the NRA that the M50 Contractor is required to retain as much existing planting as can reasonably be retained consistent with the engineering works required to install the noise barriers and if trees have been removed unnecessarily by the Contractor these will have to be replaced.
The Council has also requested the NRA to consider the planting of trees as a means of reducing the visual impact of sign gantries recently erected on the M50. The NRA has responded to the effect that it is investigating the feasibility of planting trees for the purpose described. However it should be noted that there is a considerasble foundation involved in the construction and erection of these Gantries.
