QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor, TD

To ask for a report on the operation of the Dial A Drugs Campaign organised in cooperation with the Tallaght Drugs Task Force.

REPLY:

Garda DMRS

The Dial A Drugs Campaign was evaluated by Public Communications Ltd and a report was published on the 13th October 2009.The evaluation report related to all areas where the Dial to Stop Drug Dealing campaign was functioning. In respect of the Tallaght area there were 99 calls made to the Dial To Stop Drug Dealing phone number. As a result of these calls there are two prosecutions pending under Section 15 Misuse Drugs Act and three prosecutions under Section 3 Misuse Drugs Act. A number of searches were carried out and there are ongoing enquiries being made in respect of some of the calls. Twenty eight calls were deemed to be too vague or bogus or incorrect information supplied.

The evaluation concluded that the campaign worked well and provided a cost effective valuable drug dealing information to the Gardai on a significant scale and should continue.
