QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the Gardaí to report on sustained acts of antisocial behaviour in the vicinity of Walkinstown Roundabout and the general St Peter's Rd area given the significant level of complaints from local residents and traders, including the numbers of youths involved, any reported incidents and any action taken."
REPLY: Garda DMDS
There has been an increase in recent months of youths congregating in the vicinity of Walkinstown Roundabout and its environs. Over the Halloween period business premises were giving material from their premises to young persons for bonfires. This material was being stored at the rear of a business premises at Walkinstown Avenue. It was identified by Gardai and subsequently removed by Dublin City Council.
Since Halloween the youths have continued to congregate to a lesser extent. The main offenders have been identified and their respective parents notified. However support has not been forthcoming from the parents. The youths are being dealt with through the medium of the Juvenile Diversion Programme for minor offences. Some of the youths have also been issued with anti social behaviour warnings. All Garda units have been requested to continue to give this area attention during the course of their patrols.
