SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns
This Committee calls on the Manager, in light of ongoing complaints regarding anti social behaviour in Tymon Park, including the burning of Council property in the form of refuse bins, and while remaining cognisant of the financial cost to the Council and the hardship caused to local residents, to explore new ways of dealing with these issues including liaising with local Garda to put a stop to them without further delay.
REPORT:
Recent incidents of anti-social behaviour within Tymon Park in the vicinity of Osprey and Rushbrook areas have been brought to the attention of the Park Rangers and the Park Supervisor who are in liaison with the local Gardaí on the matter. In general, staff of the Parks Department maintain a regular and mutually supportive relationship with the Gardaí in attempting to apprehend perpetrators of anti-social behaviour and to deter such activity. The Parks Department will continue to assist and co-operate with the Gardaí in attempting to address problems in this particular area of Tymon Park. In addition, in order to reduce cover for anti-social activity within Tymon Park to the rear of properties along its boundary with Osprey and Rushbrook, the Parks Department will be undertaking significant tree pruning and removal works in this area over the coming weeks as part of our tree maintenance programme. The density of cover along some stretches of the park boundary has been cited by a number of residents as a contributing factor to anti-social behaviour in the area and it is hoped that the proposed tree pruning will prove effective in reducing this activity. Similar works were completed in recent years along the park boundary with Kennington.
