QUESTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"To ask the Manager to supply details on the exact costs of grass cutting and other general maintenance in cemeteries in the Tallaght central ward in 2009. Can the Manager also indicate if this work was carried out by Contractors or Council staff and if so did it involve overtime payments?"

REPLY:

The costs incurred to date in  2009 by the Council for the maintenance of Bohernabreena Cemetary are estimated to be in the region of €291,332. This cost includes staff, materials, equipment and waste disposal. The Council hires a JCB for removal of waste from bunkers and other necessary maintenance tasks and this cost is in the region of €18,900 for Bohernabreena Cemetery.

The costs incurred to date in  2009 by the Council for the maintenance of Templeogue Cemetery are estimated to be in the region of €46,243. This cost includes staff, materials, equipment and waste disposal. The Council hires a JCB for removal of waste from bunkers and other necessary maintenance tasks and this cost is in the region of €3,000. for Templeogue Cemetary.

In the weeks prior to each of the annual masses some of the grass cutting and general maintenance was carried out on Saturdays which involved maintenance staff working overtime.
