MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor C. Brophy

That this Committee calls on the Manager to ensure that a collection service for bags of waste is provided to residents groups who carry out clean up days and that groups will continue to be provided with the materials to help with community clean up days. 

REPORT:

It has been necessary to impose budgetary constraints on disrectionary areas of expenditure due to the current financial climate and as a contribution to this, materials distributed by the Environmental Services Department have been necessarily curtailed somewhat. Residents Associations and other community organisations continue to receive assistance from local Anti-Litter Wardens where possible to ensure that their local areas are well maintained including facilitating the removal of any bags of litter etc. collected from their estates as has been the case in the past.

In addition, the proposed social credit programme will provide further incentives to such groups in this regard when it is launched in 2010.
