Green Route QBC - Old Bawn Road
The Old Bawn Road QBC forms part of the QBC Network linking The Firhouse/Ballycullen QBC to the proposed Tallaght QBC Enhancements (The N81). The scheme consists of 695m of QBC in the southbound direction and 315m in the northbound direction. The sections of bus lanes proposed are as follows:
Southbound (695 m of bus lane)
1. 235 m of bus lane from a point 120 m south of Mountain Park to Seskin View Road.
2. 460 m of bus lane from Parkwood Park to Firhouse Road.
Northbound (315 m of bus lane)
1. 85 m of bus lane from Parkwood Park to Seskin View Road.
2. 230 m of bus lane from a point 80 m south of Mountain Park to the N81.
The Scheme has the potential to provide considerable benefits for public transport users on the route as follows:
- There will be significant time savings for a large number of bus passengers.
- As the number of general traffic lanes remains unchanged, there is no significant impact on journey times for general traffic.
- Improvements to pedestrian and cycle facilities including cycle tracks and /or bus and cycle lanes, the full length of the scheme on both sides.
- It will link to the proposed Firhouse/Ballycullen QBC of which Phase I (between Old Bawn Rd and Ballycullen Road) has been constructed while Phase II (From Woodstown to N81) has just commenced construction.
- It will also link to the Tallaght QBC Enhancement (The N81) which is currently at preliminary design stage and which it is envisaged that it will commence Part 8 public consultation in November 2009.
Subject to the agreeemnt of the Area Committee. it is proposed to initiate a Part 8 public consultation process under the Planning & Development Regulations in the immediate future. The cost of the scheme will be funded from the DTO’s Annual Traffic Management Grant programme.
