MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

Cathaoirleach's Business

This Committee agrees to call on the Manager to give a report outlining if he has received representations regarding increased traffic volumes and associated problems being experienced by residents living in the Silken Park Kingswood Cross area and  if any steps can be taken to alleviate these local difficulties.

REPORT:

The Council has received representations on behalf of residents of Silken Park, Brownsbarn Wood and Brownbarn Court areas in relation to the speed of construction vehicles on the Old Naas Road.  This representation also requested the provision of a Stop Sign at the exit from Silken Park onto the Old Naas Road.

As Silken Park is not in the maintenance or charge of the Council, the Council are unable to install the requested Stop Sign.  This matter can be taken up with the Developer of the estate.

A number of Speed Limit Repeater Signs (60kmph) were recently installed on the Old Naas Road.

It is proposed to install Double Yellow Lines on the west side of the Old Naas Road opposite the entrance to Brownsbarn Gardens to improve visibility and safety at this location.  This work has been allocated to the Contractor and it is anticipated that the lines should be installed shortly.

The issue of speeding on this road and parking on existing double yellow lines has also been referred to the local Gardai for their attention.
