MOTION NO. 7
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That the Council consider allowing the residents of Willbrook Park, in the absence of being granted permission by the Council to incorporating the section of laneway into their gardens, to convert this space into allotment space for the residents of houses 2-14."
REPORT:
The location to the rear of 2-14 Willbrook Park was examined to determine its suitability for the development of allotments. It was found that the site contains an underground water main and an associated monitoring station for which the Council's Water and Drainage Section would require umimpeded access. The site comprises a very narrow strip of land that is overshadowed along some stretches of its length by boundary walls and adjacent garden planting rendering it less suitable for the cultivation and growing of food crops. In addition, this strip of land is a means of accessing the rear of the properties nos. 2-16 Willbrook Park and if the site was developed for allotments, the property owners could only have pedestrian access along their rear boundaries. Taking all of these issues into account, it is considered that this site is not viable for the development of allotments.
