QUESTION NO. 21
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to report on the likely timeframe for the preparation and making of the proposed new cemeteries bye laws and to further ask for an outline of the matters which may be addressed in the proposed bye laws?
REPLY:
The Environment Department is currently preparing Draft Bye Laws for the Regulation of Cemeteries. These Bye Laws will address such issues as Size of Grave Spaces, Exhumations, Register of burials, Purchase of Certificates and Erection of Monuments, the Establishment of Voluntary Committees etc. It is anticipated that the Draft Bye-Laws will be ready before the end of the year when they will be presented to the Members for discussion at the Strategic Policy Committee and following agreement onto the Council for adoption.
