QUESTION: Councillor S. Crowe
To ask the Manager will he give a report outlining the new, positive and pro active measures being planned by this Council and other State bodies to combat anti social behaviour,unwanted bonfires on Green spaces and their clean up bills, in the lead up to and during the Halloween Festivities?
REPLY:
The following initiatives are being carried out by Environmental Awareness regarding bonfire awareness this year:
- Bonfire Awareness Posters distributed to the following:
- All the secondary schools in the County
- Community Centres,
- Libraries,
- South Dublin County Tourism, Hallowfest
- Halloween Mask & Decoration Workshops - Make masks from recycled materials with environmental education/talk on bonfire safety and hazards in Ballyroan Library - Monday 19th October 3.30pm -5pm – Primary School Age 8-10 years, 1 class and Lucan Library on Friday 23rd October 10am-11.30am – Primary School Age 8-10 years, 1 class
- School Talks re Bonfire Awareness. Tallaght Community Garda will be organise talks in schools in relation to safety around bonfires. In addition the Dublin Fire Brigade have said that they will provide talks to 1st & 2nd class in secondary schools that request them. 1st & 2nd class in secondary schools throughout the County will be informed about the opportunity to request a talk.
The Council is confident that this approach will serve to reduce the volume and spread of materials used to feed bonfires throughout the County however, staff from the Councils Parks Department are currently and will continue to be fully employed leading up to Halloween night on removing bonfire material from regional parks, public open spaces and housing lands throughout the county.
