QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor C. King

To ask the Manager to inform the Council whether pro social activities namely community clean-ups are continuing to be facilitated by this Council through the distribution of brushes, bags, paint etc taking into account this is a front line service and the various positive outcomes which arise from these Community events?

REPLY:

It has been necessary to impose budgetary constraints on disrectionary areas of expenditure due to the financial situation that this Council is in and as a contribution to this, materials distributed by the Environmental Services have been necessarily curtailed.  However this service was being offered by two Departments and is now streamlined with the Housing Tenant Participation in Estate Management Service continuing to offer the service and working along side the Environmental Services staff to support community organisations in ensuring that they can keep their areas well maintained.  In addition the development of the social credit programme will provide further incentives to groups when it is launched in 2010.
