The Council commenced the current Allotment Scheme in 2006 and has expanded and improved the facilities since that time by the provision of a water supply and parking areas. It has recently been agreed to extend the allotment facility at Friarstown, Bohernahreena and it is expected works will proceed in the near future.
Notwithstanding the above, the Parks & Landscape Services Department is also examining areas within Parks and Council owned lands where new allotments might be appropriate throughout the County.
In conjunction with this examination a full review of all aspects of the Council's Allotment Scheme including development costs, maintenance , management costs and the letting fee structure is also being undertaken with a view to facilitating the rollout of additional sites within available resources.
There is an overall waiting list of approximately 400 at present for allotments.
