QUESTION: Councillor R. Dowds
To ask the Manager to outline the charges for playing golf at Kilcarberry Golf Course both before and after the most recent price hikes and to give an explanation for the increase?
REPLY:
The Council’s Golf Course at Grange Castle Kilcarberry has been operating successfully since April l998. As a result of a recent tender processs earlier this year the Council engaged the services of a Management Company for a three year period commencing lst Ferbruary 2009 to manage and administer the facilities at Grange Castle Golf Course.
As part of their contract, the new management company was asked to examine the existing operations and make a submission to increase the revenue potential particularly in relation to off-peak times and to suggest incentives to maximise course usage having regard to the current economic climate and competition in the golf industry.
Following discussions with the Management Company regarding their submission it was agreed that the green fee rates shown below be applied with effect from the lst June 2009:
Set out hereunder is a comparison of the new green fees with those which were in operation prior to 1st June 2009 i.e. the green fees that came into operation on 7th August 2007

It can be seen from the foregoing that there is no appreciable increase in individual green fees but the new rates applying are designed to optimise usage of the facility during both peak and off-peak periods. The new arrangements have been monitored since their introduction in June and the Council is satisfied that the changes have led to improved use of the course as well as an increase in revenue.
