QUESTION NO. 12
QUESTION: Councillor D. Keating
To ask the Manager that all grey bins be returned to footpaths when emptied, rather than being left on the roads, as in case in many estates? The practice of not returning grey bins to footpaths by some staff, is not only a source of great annoyance and inconvenience to many residents, including our senior citizens, but is also potentially dangerous as many cars can be seen manoeuvring around grey bins that are left on roads in our estates.
REPLY:
The refuse collection staff are regularly reminded to return emptied bins to the road side so as not to cause an obstruction. Supervisory staff monitor that the bins are returned to roadside on an ongoing basis. The repositioning of bins will be included in the overall negotiations on the restructuring of the service which are being conducted between Unions and Management.
If the member has details of any particular locations where bins are not being returned to the roadside the particular instances will be raised with the Refuse Service Staff and monitored thereafter.
