COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

MOTION NO. 258
MOTION: Councillor R. Dowds
That this Council agrees to submit the following addendum to SLO 12 after the final sentence:
"And that the North Clondalkin Library be located in North Clondalkin rather than in the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre."
REPORT:
REPORT:
The Library Development Plan 2007-2011, adopted by Council members in 2007, lists the provision of new libraries at Liffey Valley and North Clondalkin.
Experience shows that successful contemporary public libraries are located in areas where diverse communities gather for a range of activities and where other Council facilities are delivered on the same site. Shared services and the importance of economies of scale will also influence decision making as to where libraries are located. All library projects are contingent on the availability of funding and all possibilities for further developing library infrastructure in the Liffey Valley/North Clondalkin area must be examined during the lifetime of this plan.
Manager’s Recommendation:
It is recommended that the Motion not be adopted.
