MOTION NO. 332

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That any land the Council has that is zoned housing, be zoned open recreation. We cannot de-zone private investors' land and there is excessive land zoned in the county.   

REPORT:

The zoning of land is a function of the Development plan regardless of ownership. As this motion makes particular reference to land ownership it is not appropriate to the Development Plan and would not  be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the County.

The Council has identified the housing requirement to 2016, the life of the new development plan, and in the circumstances could not agree with the motion that would eliminate all Council owned land potentially required for Social/Affordable Housing purposes.

MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that this Motion not be adopted.
