MOTION NO. 177
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
That the Plan will encourage and facilitate steps or measures to enhance the revitalisation and long term viability of Tallaght Village and end the proliferation of take away units.
REPORT:
Tallaght is the County Town and the administrative capital of South Dublin County. Section 3.3.5 and policies TDL6, TDL7, TDL8 and TDL9 of the Draft Plan will encourage the continued growth and expansion of the County Town and facilitate measures to enhance the revitalisation and long term viability of Tallaght.
The future of the County Town will be secured through the provision of the Tallaght Town Centre Local Area Plan (2006). The Local Area Plan will continue the augmentation of the retail provision within the town centre and to upgrade the existing retail component to ensure its competitiveness. It will continue to facilitate a layout which integrates streets, squares and parks as well as linkages and accessibility thereby creating desirable places to live. It will encourage a diverse range of land uses and identify a range of opportunities to intensify development in the town centre in accordance with local conditions and aspirations.
Section 3.4.10.viii, Policy S8 ensures that the assessment of planning applications for local/corner shop developments will pay particular attention to the possible effects on adjoining property from the provision of such shops. In addition to this, Section 3.4.11 and Policy S15 ensures that this type of development will be strictly controlled having regard to the effect of noise, general disturbance, hours of operation, litter and fumes on the amenities of nearby residents or adjoining commercial activities.
MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION:
No change required to the Draft Development Plan.
