MOTION NO. 171

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

That on page 154 – 3.2.15 an additional policy entitled “Rural Tourism”  be added: “It is the policy of the Council to encourage farmhouse accommodation, open farms and agri-, green-, eco- and geo-tourism” and that the draft county development is amended accordingly.

REPORT:

The Draft Development Plan, through Policy EE31: Sustainable Development of Agricultural Diversification supports rural tourism while protecting and maintaining biodiversity, wildlife habitats, water quality, rural landscape character, scenic amenities and nature conservation. Through Policy EE24: Tourism Infrastructure the Draft Development Plan seeks to provide for the development of tourism infrastructure in a sustainable and sensitive manner that maximises the recreational and tourist potential of the County’s natural and built assets.  It is considered that the Draft Development Plan supports and facilitates the underlying principles of agri, green, eco and geo tourism.

Manager’s Recommendation:

It is recommended that the Motion be adopted.
